The ticketing official website for State Florentine Museums
The Museum accommodates a remarkable collection of sculpture and "minor arts".
It is located in an impressive building erected around the middle of the 13th century for the Capitano del Popolo before becoming the site of the Podestà and the Council of Justice.
Starting from 1865, when the building became the National Museum, some of the most important Renaissance sculptures, including masterpieces by Donatello, Luca della Robbia, Verrocchio, Michelangelo and Cellini came together.
Later the museum was enriched by splendid collections of bronzes, majolica, waxes, enamels, medals, ivories, amber, tapestries, furniture, seals and textiles, coming partially from Medici collections and from private donors.
