UFFIZI GALLERY - BUY YOUR TICKETS

The Galleria degli Uffizi, one of the world’s leading museums, dates back to 1560, when Cosimo I de’ Medici commissioned Giorgio Vasari to build a great, two-wing palace along the river and nearly suspended in the air, which would have accommodated the judicial and administrative offices (Uffizi) of the Florentine government.
Vasari is also the author, five years later, of a suspended tunnel, that passing over Ponte Vecchio and Santa Felicita church, connects the Uffizi to the then new Medici residence of Palazzo Pitti and ends in the Boboli Gardens.
The first true core of the Galleria was created by Francesco I, son of Cosimo, who, after converting the top floor of the Uffizi into a place where to walk surrounded by paintings, statues, and other precious things, entrusted Buontalenti with the creation of a Tribuna to accommodate furnishings and other works of art.
The Galleria degli Uffizi currently hosts an immense artistic heritage, including thousands of paintings ranging from medieval times to the modern era, as well as a vast number of ancient sculptures, miniatures, and tapestries. Famous is the collection of self-portraits, steadily enriched over time, even through acquisitions and donations of contemporary artists, which is joined by the collection of the Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe.
